We are parents of a child who has Sensory Processing Dysfunction (SPD) with Progressive Developmental Delay, for whom there has not been a complete medical treatment. We have joined with him and many other families, embarking upon the same journey and discovery.
Back in Texas
We were both practicing and teaching physicians at the University of Texas; Dr. Ahmed Fadil's specialty is in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, while Dr. Hanan Ayoub-Fadil is in the field of Occupational and Environmental medicine. When our son was diagnosed with SPD we started researching and traveling the country to meet with the top experts in the field. Dr. Ayoub-Fadil, being in the field of Occupational and Environmental Medicine was able to conduct extensive research and developed many support programs for children and families. During our journey we got the opportunity to work with many pioneers in this field who became our friends and collaborators.
New Jersey
In 2008 we decided to move to New Jersey, where more research was available to expand our studies. We joined the Defeat Autism Now (DAN) medical and scientific researchers to continue helping our son as well as others.
Why we Started Atlantis Centers?
We soon realized that research wasn't enough, especially that there was no one place where parents could go to get all the help they need for their children with SPD. So in 2009, we established a Center that is supported by a multi-disciplinary team to provide much needed services for children with special needs.
Atlantis Centers Serves Healthy Families as well
We then realized that it is not only children that have been officially diagnosed as being impaired that need our help; parents and teachers were coming to us with challenging issues regarding children that are considered "normal", but are displaying impaired behavior, while their mainstream physicians were insisting there was nothing wrong. We decided to offer our services, not only to families with challenged children, but to for everyone in the community. All parents need to be aware of environmental risks that prevail in our world and to have access to resources to help them protect their children's health and well-being. We started advocating for a clean environment for our children and offered educational workshops for parents as well prevention programs for healthy children.
Atlantis Health Care Group
In 2010, we established Atlantis Health Care Group (AHCG) in Red Bank, New Jersey, to provide holistic and conventional programs for both children and adults suffering from a wide range of conditions, especially SPD.
We are very optimistic about our future and the future of our children and have plans to recreate this project internationally.
Atlantis parents
Atlantis parents come with different skills and backgrounds, ranging from scientists, physicians, lawyers, to community leaders. They have decided to work hand in hand with their children with special needs, to change the course of their children's illnesses. Many children we have treated have recovered and are completely mainstreamed.
